A. Dee Casey
The Fox Lady Fantasy Novelist
Cut off from Faerie, the magical land of her birth, Aislinn wanders the human world alone until one day from out of the separating mists that lie between two worlds a kinsman calls her name.
Reunited with her people Aislinn finally learns her true identity. The king rejoices at her return, but others are not so eager to welcome the lost one home. Dark forces besiege Faerie, and Aislinn finds herself in a unique position to help her people. The problem is keeping safe long enough to make a difference.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rue the Day.
Ms. Muldoon’s fictional world is multilayered, well-defined, and rich with imagery. It is inhabited by an interesting cast of characters who possess magical and psychic powers. Some are even able to change their form.
Unfortunately, in Faerie as in this world, some of the inhabitants chose to use their powers for evil not good. The story moves forward at a good pace, and the plot is filled with little twists and turns that keep you reading.
The book all too soon comes to a satisfying conclusion which leaves you happy for Aislinn who has at last found her way home. I hope that Ms. Muldoon plans a sequel. I’d like to see more of Aislinn.
***
Rue the Day is a truly enjoyable tale. I was transported to different realms seamlessly. The strength of the heroine is undeniable. Aislinn is a reluctant heiress who must serve in a realm she does not fully understand. Her mother, who she thought lost to her, is the Queen and is gravely ill. She must be healed for the land of the Faerie to survive and mend, as the Queen has been unwell for a long time and the land suffers.
Aislinn comes from the human existence with unusual powers of observation and an uncanny self protection of her own instincts. She learns the faerie folk communicate with mind speak and finds her instincts give her similar qualities.
Cat Muldoon weaves a tale that the reader can transport to the same world as her heroine. The tension was sustained throughout the book, without artifice, simply the force of a memorable tale. This is the first story of Cat’s I’ve had the good fortune to read and it will not be the last. I look forward to visiting many other realms with Cat Muldoon.
On my unbelievable believable scale this rates 5 pixies.
Quote:
Cat Muldoon presents, RUE THE DAY – THE UNDERCOVER HEIR, the first book of her Faerie Trilogy, and its behind-the-scenes espionage at the Faerie castle in Summerland. Using only her deductive observations and mortal intuition Lynne Mehara struggles against her blocked magical powers to save her mother and father, Queen Neala and King Nevin, from assassination.
Review:
When Lynne Mehara is kidnapped out of the boarder-lands of the Realm of Mists by her mother’s twin brother, Cian, she has no idea of the types of danger he faces just to rescue her. Even with her magical Faerie powers and Divine Sight cloaked, teenager Princess Aislinn must resort to her mortal deductive observations and intuition to uncover the political betrayal against her royal family. There is a plot within the faerie castle that wants Queen Neala dead… but who? And why?
RUE THE DAY…The Undercover Heir is a fast paced fantasy in the land of Faeries and Selkies, where behind the scenes there is political treachery, betrayal, and a plot to assassinate Queen Neala and King Nevin. Outside of her pet cat, the princess doesn’t know who she can trust, and who might be an enemy to her royal family.
